The class composition of the Provisional IRA in the early 1970’s was best described in these terms,by a contemporary of theirs, Cahal Mc Glade,in a letter to The Irish News some years ago.

On this theme...
In Stalinist Russia the criminals (the blatn’ye) were used by the guards against imprisoned soldiers and dissenting artists, writers and musicians according to Solzhenitsyn’s Gulag Archipelago.
A sectarian campaign against Protestants led to many IRA defections to the ranks of the security forces and to supergrass trials and that latter phenomenon ushered in the Security Unit.

The IRA of the early 1970's was as disciplined as any bunch of former rentboys with concealed knives and guns or any other mafia-style group of armed hooligans.
When widespread homosexuality amongst Belfast Provos and loyalists was publicised, the glitter faded and the spotlight shifted to the Provos,Communists and Sticks involvement in drugdealing and prostitution. Plain-clothed soldiers were deployed to built-up areas and housing estates in Dublin during the early 1980's.
A small number of those misfits were sent North in the 1980's and 1990's with the full approval of the British Government because the English knew they were only toyboys with knuckledusters and cutthroat razors who would deal with the cornerboy as the police in the US used counter gangs to keep crime under control.
The PIRA, despite ostentatious pretences, never really gelled until 1985. Then, the Security Unit was set up under the direct control of Martin McGuinness. Democratic centralism was in the air in that year and conspiratorial neckties were beginning to loosen.
The development of central control was greatly aided by the measure of reciprocity between the IRA and the Irish and British armies. A factor encouraging fluidity and central direction was the retirement of the first echelon of recruits. On that subject,I was an occasional offender by forcing some of the worst sectarian killers of the Provisionals into retirement.
In 1999,my openness to Carol 'Quinn' brought the wrath of Cain on my head as happens to anyone who is at heart a feckless individual.

Sectarian bigots of IRA making
A question for the Provos and others who boast,"No-one steals from me!" and those who go to Mass who have sway with the leaders of street gangs. Similarly,to those who have had nothing to read other than the Bible in prison,I ask,
"Who did the founder of Christianity say would sit at his RIGHT-hand side other than a thief?".
This tenet is a pillar of the creed of the Universal Church. The Catholic Church sees salvation in terms of Universal Salvation, not the elitism of the Chosen Few. The born again and evangelical types and Christic cults wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. I am referring to people such as French Marxists and members of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. So we say with one voice to their fellow travellers in Ireland,"Give over your whingeing!"
Sinn Fein?
Nobody trusts a LIAR such as Gerry Adams or his police friends because It was him,not Scapaticci, who got Belfast Provisionals beaten up by gangs of Southern soldiers and disorganised small groups of insurgents and he did the same with anyone who did not pander to his self-preening and media-priming with false information through the pages of both the Irish News and Belfast Telegraph. It was his ego-tripping and his desire to appear other than a stooge of myself and others which cost many former prisoners their lives.
Former militants,in death we are all equal!
On that theme since Adams lies about his religiosity....
Go to Mass! Get over it, self-styled victims!
Be more tolerant!
Avoiding a repetition of civil unrest by equitable and fair behaviour demands the following,
Help an honest person or a thief; the latter, even more so than you would a needy stranger to gain earthly blessings. You will find that like 1930's Sunny Boy Floyd,he never stole from a poor man or someone who had less than himself. Nor would he damage anything that belonged to him. Anything else is the cant of sheep-worriers and doggie men.
As regards Belfast Provos,my mother taught me,"You can trust a thief but you can't trust a LIAR or the breed of a liar."
Does that satisfy the idle curiosity of get-rich-quick Sinn Fein politicians who appear unannounced at election time and have to go to the Bankruptcy Court to clear their debts by mutual arrangement?
Think of Clinton and a crook like Mark Thatcher and Sean Quinn. Quinn was jailed for three months for perverting the course of justice. Neville Morrow,Jim Elliott and Bob Brady will join them when they are sentenced for fraud and procuring perjured evidence and false trading.

While the Provos effect a more grounded appearance than the dissident republican, the only realists are those are those who believe in armed intervention in the affairs of state such as the 'open' prison system or the closed prison system of hospital prisons and government workshops, the latter for supervised leave.
The former lead in republican socialism was the Workers Party. It dabbled in community politics but its gritty brand of big city realism lost its shine because of internecine disputes and communal violence with the mainstream.
All insurrectionary groups degenerate into petty politicking and social indolence concerning the real concerns of the working class and poor. The working man whether it be in 1916 or 1972 does not believe in either insurrection or rebellion but the strike to gain his demands.
Basta! Faceri con tutti!
