In 1948 internment still operated in the
South of Ireland and the IRA’s Army Council were all separately imprisoned in
the Curragh Military Prison preventing a meeting for three months, thus leading
to the dissolution of the IRA under its Standing Orders.
98% of people went to Mass every week and
there were only three murders in the South in the space of a year. This
compares to sixty annually today.
Time to think about internment for the drugs gangs.
